# Do I need a high level of fitness to start riding with the club?

No - We have a ride that is especially for riders of all fitness levels - Saturday Slowies (See the Road page for more details). We encourage new riders to join in with this ride and build fitness from there. You can bring any type of bike to this ride as long as it's roadworthy.

# Are there any costs involved to start riding with DHBC?

We promote a 'try before you buy (at your own risk)' policy for your first two or three rides, so as long as your equipment and helmet are suitable you can ride with us. After that we do insist you make a choice of becoming a member, or not proceed with riding with the club. Its very important for insurance, for rules (including UCI and State and Australian Laws), and for organisational purposes, that people join if they enjoy riding with DHBC. For a Recreational Licence (called 'Ride Silver') to do Saturday Slowies and other training rides the cost for adults is $88 a year. Please see this Cycling Australia page (opens new window) with information on all available licences.

# Other than my bike what sort of equipment do I need?

DHBC complies with the RTA and Cycling Australia's helmet policy. Your helmet must be clearly marked with an Australian Standard Approved Notification (a silver and red sticker). We also suggest good quality cycling shoes, cycling jersey, nicks and gloves. Both front and rear lights are required for any time it's dark, especially on winter mornings. You should also bring a drink bottle (bidon), a spare tube, tyre levers and a pump.

# What sort of bike do I need?

For Saturday Slowies you can use a Road, Mountain, Hybrid, Fixie, Touring or whatever you have available. For Sunday's rides to Waterfall and the Adventure rides a well maintained road bike is needed.

# Music Players

DHBC enforces a strict "no personal music player" policy on all club rides so please leave the iPod at home.

# I'm interested in track racing, where do I start?

Best way to start is to check out one of our training sessions at Tempe (Canterbury) Velodrome. Monday and Wednesday nights 6pm to 9pm. Come and have a look and meet some of our track riders. Also see the Track Page for more information.
